Counselling Services

What is Counselling?

Sometimes people coming for counselling have found it rather a puzzling experience and not what they were expecting; it is not like relationships they may have had with such professionals as doctors or social workers, nor is it like the relationship with friends or family.

You may benefit if you know in advance what to expect. On the other hand, having read these notes you may decide it is not what you want at the moment.

The overall aim of counselling is to provide an opportunity for the client to work towards living in a way he, or she experiences as more satisfying and resourceful.

Counselling isn't advice, guidance or a simple solution, nor is it treatment or something done to you.

Sometimes, but not always, counselling feels like hard work. You may experience difficult and painful emotions along the way. It can also be an interesting and helpful experience which enables many people to feel much happier about themselves and their lives.

Counselling Sessions Are :-

  • One to one.
  • Private and confidential.
  • Usually 50 minutes long and usually once per week.

The Counsellor Will Not :-

  • Have any relationship with you other than the counselling one.
  • Be a permanent support or friend to you.
