What is Counselling?

It is often useful to talk to someone who listens and accepts us when we are going through bad times.  Sometimes this is easier when they are not a relative or friend.

There are many types of counseling but they all aim to:

  • Give you a safe time and place to talk to someone who won't judge you.

  • Help you make sense of things and understand yourself better.

  • Help you resolve complicated feelings, or find ways to live with them.

  • Help you recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think or act and find ways to change them (if you want to).

How Can counselling help me?

How can counselling help me?

A counsellor is someone trained to listen and help you decide what you want to do about the issues in your life.

They will:

◦ Listen actively without judgement.

◦ Help you find your own answers, reflect and explore your feelings safely.

◦ Maintain confidentiality.

◦ They will not give advice or tell you what to do or meet socially.

All counsellors are qualified and experienced with ongoing professional development & receive Supervision.

Contact us:

For counselling to be beneficial it is important to attend regular weekly appointments. If you are unable to attend an arranged appointment it is essential that you give us as much notice as possible. A message can be left at any time on our voicemail facility. If you fail to cancel in good time you may lose that session and if you miss two appointments without contacting us we will assume that you don’t wish to continue with the sessions.

Our young people's counselling service is funded by Children in Need.
