Joining the service

Safe Hands is available for:

  • People with mental health problems experiencing distress and need help now.

  • Aged 16 plus (with no upper limit)

  • Living in East Staffordshire, Tamworth Borough, Lichfield District, Stafford Borough, Cannock Chase, and South Staffs District.

  • People with existing support and care planning from Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and the Urgent Care (Crisis) Teams.

  • Enquiries to come through RIO and the Access Team.

The Service

Funded by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Burton and District Mind are excited to now provide a range of services for people experiencing mental health distress. Guided by dedicated Team Leaders, the Recovery Workers will provide a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environments helping individuals in their recovery through promotion of self‐empowerment and independence. The services will be relaxed, informal and supportive, considerate of risk and safety, focused on de-escalation and recovery. Where required, the team will have access to the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team for when someone presents in a mental health crisis and is a risk to themselves and/or others.

​​​Safe Hands

An Out of Hours Home Support Service, working out of Lichfield and Stafford, covers the whole of Southern Staffordshire (Stafford Borough, East Staffordshire Borough, Cannock Chase District, Lichfield District, South Staffordshire District and Tamworth Borough). The service will provide an on-call approach, working in teams of two to support the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment team.

Working in pairs, they will meet with participants:

  • At their own home

  • At Accident and Emergency

  • At the 136 Suite, a 'Place of Safety'

  • At the Safe Haven Cafe

It is currently available seven days a week from 2:00pm and 10:00pm across the service area.

All referrals MUST be made through the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team and participants will already be known to mental health services.  

The  Safe Hands service is funded by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

We offer Safe Hands in Cannock, Stafford and South Staffs with agreement with North Staffs Mind.
