Today, the 10th of October, is an important day in our Mental Health Calendar, and not just because it’s the last day of the week before the weekend. It is World Mental Health Day.
A day dedicated to celebrating mental health and raising awareness to many of the different support options available.
But this year, Mind and local Minds across the country are using this as an opportunity to highlight why we should focus on our mental health, all throughout the year, not just for one day.

Mental health is something that impacts us every single day of the year. For example, on days when our mental health is struggling, it might affect our personal life, our work life and just how we interact with the world around us as a whole. And on days when our mental health is feeling okay, we might experience the opposite.
That’s why it is so important that every single day of our lives, we are championing mental health!
Not just in times of stress and anxiety, but in each and every little thing we do to make sure that we are looking after our wellbeing, whether that be setting boundaries, doing small things to relax, or talking to others about the things we find difficult.
It all matters and can contribute to supporting our mental health.
It is so important that we, as a community, are always keeping our mental health in focus and not just leaving it until we are struggling. The sooner you can spot signs or notice changes in yourself, the faster you can act before things get worse and harder to cope with.
This could even be something you do to support others around you, for example, if you notice someone around you behaving a bit differently or seeming down, you could try and check in with them.
Mental health should never just be important for one day of the year, but instead every day.
At Burton & District Mind, we are here to support you all through the year. Through our various activity projects, our Safe Haven Crisis Café, which is open 7 days a week, and our Counselling services.
Together, we can champion mental health and make sure everyone has access to vital mental health services and information.
