Happy Pride Month!

June is a month where we can all celebrate the LGBTQ+ communities all around the world, and this year will be the 50th celebration. Pride takes place in June due to the Stonewall Riots that took place in America back in June 1969, which changed gay rights for a lot of people in both America and around the world.

During this month we can celebrate acceptance, equality, the work of the LGBTQ+ as well as also raising awareness for any issues that LGBTQ+ communities may face. Global Pride day will be taking place on the 27 June 2022.

At Burton and District Mind inclusiveness is very important to us, we want everyone to know they are welcome to use our service regardless of sexuality. If someone is experiencing mental illness, they deserve to be able to get the help they need no matter who they are.

When it comes to mental health and being a part of the LGBT+ community there is one very important thing to note: being LGBTQ+ does not cause someone to suffer from mental health problems! However, due to things such as homophobia, dangerous stigmas and isolation they can be more likely to develop problems.

This is why it is so important for events such as pride month, we should be celebrating the LGBTQ+ communities and making sure people can be who they are without fear. The more we do that the less likely they are to have to face some of those awful things previously mentioned and as a result they could avoid developing mental health problems.

Tamworth hosts our nearest Pride Event in July:

So this month let’s do what we can to make sure to really celebrate Pride, and make sure every member of the LGBTQ+ community feels both welcome and cared for. They deserve it. Everyone deserves it.

If you are part of the LGBTQ+ community and need some help and support for your mental health, please reach out to us. We are here for you. You can get in touch with us through the following methods.
