June is Pride month, a time for everyone internationally to come together to both celebrate the LGBTQIA+ Community whilst also raising awareness towards many of the challenges they face daily.

Last year, upon noting that 6.1% of Staffordshire identify as LGBTQIA+, but only 5% of our counselling clients, and 4% of our activity participants identified this way, we stated that we as a charity, need to do more.
Here is what we have been up to over the past year!
We started our Expressions! Group, a chance for members of the LGBTQIA+ to come and talk to us about their experiences, needs and how we as a mental health charity can do more.
It truly was an eye-opening experience for us, and we are very grateful to the people who came to these sessions and offered their knowledge and experiences.
As a result of Burton and District Mind's Expression! Focus group, we have significantly expanded our reach into LGBTQIA+ spaces, strengthening our connections with local support networks and advocacy groups. Through ongoing discussions, collaborations, and targeted outreach, we have not only increased our visibility but have also begun to establish ourselves as a trusted and inclusive mental health provider within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Moving forward, we aim to continue strengthening these relationships, ensuring that our services remain accessible, responsive, and reflective of the diverse needs of those we support.

At Burton and District Mind, it's always been an important ethos to us that we support everyone. No matter their background, sexuality, age, religion, gender or circumstance. Mental health is something that impacts and affects every single person, so the last thing we would ever want to do is leave someone without support.
We are here for the LGBTQIA+ Community every day of the year, not just one month. We will continue learning and working towards making sure everyone has access to the mental health services that they deserve.
We hope to see you at some of the Pride Events taking place over the next month or two.
Lets make #Pride2025 the best one yet!
