From the 17th to the 23rd of March, it is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, a global initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It’s also a time to celebrate many of the strengths and talents that can come from being Neurodivergent.

Everyone’s brains work in different ways, and this can impact the way we interact with the world and people around us. Neurodiversity is usually used to cover some of these different thinking styles such as Autism, ADHD, DCD, and Dyslexia.
According to research done through the Neurodiversity Celebration Week organisation, it is currently thought that approximately 15-20% of the population has a neurological difference. And it's important to recognise that whilst some neurological differences may cause challenges, there can be just as many strengths alongside those challenges.
Unfortunately like with many different labels, the focus can sometimes remain on the challenges and stigmas associated with those labels rather than the strengths.
This is why times like Neurodiversity Celebration Week are so important!
Here is what we can do…
Educate ourselves about different Neurodivergent conditions and their challenges.
Being patient and understanding when communicating with neurodivergent people.
Avoiding the use of ableist language and jokes that may offend or exclude neurodiverse people.
Don’t make assumptions about their abilities or limitations, and instead celebrate their strengths!
Advocate for more inclusive policies and accommodations in schools, workplaces and communities.
