On the 29th July, we started our FREE Gentleshaw Walks Group, and now 5 weeks in, we are already so proud of how it's gone!
Here is what our Community Associate Lorraine Longmore has said about the sessions...
"The participants have taken some photos on our walk during our wellbeing talk on mental health and nature.
We took photographs of part of Gentleshaw Common that had been destroyed by fire back in April, and four months later, the power of nature to heal the damage caused by the fire.
We compared this to the resilience of being human and the ability to heal after trauma, loss, bereavement, illness and difficult times. Though we may carry those experiences within us, we are able to build our life again and heal over time.
The photographs show the embers of the fire and how nature is starting to spring to life and rejuvenate.
One participant mentioned that some of the burnt shrubs looked like ribcages emerging from the ground in an attempt to survive. We noticed that the trees that had been damaged by the fire had regrowth around the base, as a new branch of life has begun. We feel these nature photographs show endurance".
